Hi again. I came across some stray URLs I'd saved, and here is one which may be of interest to you: RootsWeb: MOJOHNSO-L Re: Warrensburg/newspaper articles, etc http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/mojohnso/2005-01/1106052116 When I started researching my ancestors a few months ago, when I was given a cache of various items, and learned their names for the first time, I quickly learned that many of my ancestors and their relatives were among the earliest settlers in Johnson Co., MO, right near Warrensburg. And I came across several very nice comments about the Warrensburg Historical Society of which the above Rootsweb posting is one example. However, to be honest, I have NO personal experience with them, and actually intend to never have any personal contact with any of them, although at one time I planned to get a lifetime membership, as so many of my ancestors at one point were in Johnson Co., MO. Several members of these founding families apparently disappear in the decade preceding the Civil War and the others leave with General Jo Shelby at the immediate end of that war and re-settle in Texas, and I doubt I'll ever learn all the details about the disappearances, nor the house burning, etc. Since everything is becoming digitized, it is probable that within the decade ALL the old books and ALL the old newspapers and ALL the paper archives of any interest to historian or genealogist will be readily accessible online. Good luck to you in tracing down the Horse Drives. Your family is POST Civil War and you might receive some great assistance their, as their alleged reputation in the above posting suggests.
