The annuel scheduled meeting of family members, relatives with their friends, the 12 Pioneer Familes Reunion will hold its annual picnic luncheon on 3d Sunday, September 16, 2012, at the Community Hall bldg in Freistatt, 105 E. 3d St.@ Avenue H.

The 12 families were named: Gabriel Boucher/Mary, Albertus Bright/Brite/Mary, Leonard Cagle/Elizabeth, Samuel M Hewlett Sr/Abigail, Oliver Perry Mann/Jeanette, Isaac Moody/Malinda, Jordan A. Morris/Mary Ann, Moses Pruitt & Candace, Joseph Schooling/Margaret, John Spilman/Mary, Benjamin Woods/Elizabeth, Edward Wormington/Nancy. As Mount Pleasant Township grew, some families and/or their children migrated to neighboring Jasper & Newton counties as well as Barry County and still reside there.

Leonard Cagle and his wife Elizabeth Smith Cagle relocated mid 1840's from Lawrence County to Carthage, Mo where he died in 1845 and she died in 1866. The 2 story red brick house now known as the Old Kellog place was originally built by the widow Elizabeth Smith Cagle. It had been the Cagle homestead. The Will of Elizabeth Smith Cagle can be found at the Court House listing her 6 sons and 2 daughters.

Incidently, the first reunion of 1934 was attended by 83 members from the 4 families: Boucher, Cagle, Morris and Pruitt. About 1946, it was learned Elizabeth Cagle had a sister named Abigail who married Samuel M Hewlett. It soon became known then, that the 2 sisters and their families were allied to the same families, thus creating the expanded family group of the allied families. There were 83 attendees in 1934 and currently there are over 355 member families found in 38 of the 50 States descended from one or more Progenitorial surnames. This writer is a Boucher, Hewlett, Spilman and Pruitt descendant with 4 ties to the Pruitt surname and allied to Boucher, Cagle, Spilman, Morris and Wormington trees.

The 12 Pioneer Families Reunion cordially invites everyone who has ties to a surname of the above mentioned families to attend. This includes allied families when daughters, grdaughters, nieces and sisters married into other area families of Barry, Newton, Greene, Jasper and Lawrence.
We celebrate these families and their allied ties as well as their values of the family.
John Spilman & wife Mary Boucher Spilman had 4 of their 10 children intermarry; Mary Massey Spilman married James Hewlett and her his death she married the widower Lamon Pruitt; her brother John Jasper married Laura Moody, dau/of Isaac & Malinda Bonner Moody, Nathan C Spilman married Emily Paralee Pruitt, Theresa Spilman married Asbury Bright, & Laura's sister Jeannette Moody married Oliver P Mann and after his death Joseph Simmons.
