Posted by: SHIRLEY LOMON (ID *****8761) Date: March 25, 2012 at 10:25:11
  of 1411

My great uncle John S. CURRY was b. 29 Aug 1873 Sandusky Co., OH the son of John C. CURRY and Elizabeth Susannah FAUSEY. They went to Cowley Co., KS by 1880 where my grandfather Albert Eugene CURRY was b. 1880.

John S. Curry m. Bertha Ann KENT by 1900 prob. in Butler Co., KS; they had a daug. Grace Elizabeth b. 1901 Butler Co. John and Bertha divorced and by 1910 Fed. Census, Bertha and her daughter Grace are living in Joplin,Jasper Co., KS. I don’t find John S. Curry on any census.[John’s brother Albert Eugene married Bertha Kent’s sister, Jennie Nanette “Nettie” Kent - they were my grandparents]

Bertha [Kent] Curry died in Jasper Co. MO, 28 April 1912 and is buried at the Jasper Co., Poor or Alma Cemetery according to her death certificate.
In questioning relatives, no one knows what ever happened to John… his granddaughter told me that her mother Grace told her that John was a “miner”.

Lately, I have found a death certificate for a John “L” Curry who died 1914 in Jasper Co.:
“John L. Curry b. ca 1874 place unknown – parents unknown’ “d 13 May 1914 at Porto Rico, Joplin Twp. Jasper Co., MO ‘occupation - zinc miner’” John died fron a gunshot wound – homicide; he wasn’t buried until 28 Dec 1914 at the Webb City Cemetery in Jasper Co.

Is this my great uncle John S.Curry??? Was the homicide ever solved?? Was John ever identified as to were he was born or his parents? Need information on this ‘murder’ that took place on 13 May 1914 in Jasper Co., MO.
