Annette,
Iron County was cut from Dent, Madison, Reynolds, St. Francois, Washington and Wayne Counties in 1857.

1)Dent was formed in 1851 from Crawford and Shannon.
2)Madison was formed in 1818 from Cape Girardeau and Ste. Genevieve Counties.
3)Reynolds was formed in 1845 from Shannon.
4)St. Francois was formed in 1821 from Jefferson, Ste. Genevieve, and Washington.
5)Washington was formed in 1813 from Ste. Genevieve.
6)Wayne was formed in 1833 from Montgomery.

So, as you can see, Dent wasn't a county in 1850. You would have to check Crawford or Shannon. Who are you looking for? I have some resources, I might be able to help you.
Joan
