I looked in the book "Howard County Cemetery Records" compiled by Louise Coutts and Karen Boggs,and these entries are of interest:

Ebenezer Cemetery:
PHILLIPS, James 9-29-1783 to 8-30-1865
PHILLIPS, Polly married J. 10-30-1775 to 7-23-1848

Shaw Cemetery:
PHILLIPS, Isabel wife of James 6-5-1793 to 2-8-1872, married first to George H. Minor

I found no entries that stated the deceased was a child of James and Mary. I have the entry for Isabel included, as perhaps James married after Mary ("Polly") died. It was the second marriage for her and could have been for him too. Just a thought.

I will go to the courthouse next Friday, as I have a couple other items to look up then as well.
