Philip Stair, the son of John and Catherine Stair was calculated to have been born in about 1830 in Ohio. He was later married to a woman named Ennier M. Eddy on 15 August 1860 in Clinton County, Michigan. Ennier, who was a native of New York, was calculated to have been born there in 1835.
According to available census records, Philip and Ennier lived in Clinton County, Michigan and Ohio for a time before settling at Calhoun in Henry County, Missouri. Philip was a tin smith by trade.
