Mellissa Smith 1858-1943, Galt East Cemetery

The following is found listed at Galt East Cemetery: SMITH Melissa E. (BOYLES) 1858-1943 d/o Jessie F. & Mary N. BOYLES; w/o Hunter.

Hunter (head), Melissa (wife), Guy (son), Elsworth (son) and Mary H. (mother) are listed in same household in 1900.

In 1911, the obit of Francis Marion Smith of Decatur Co., IA mentions a sister Mrs. Lissa Smith of Gault, Mo.

The 1900, 1910 & 1920 census records for Galt show only Melissa, w/o Hunter.

Interestingly, Francis & Meliissa (his sister) parents were Jesse Smith & Mary Beals (somtimes listed as Bayles).

The similarity of names seems more than coincidence. In addition, the Melissa in 1900 listed father's birthplace as NC and mother's as OH; these are the birth places of Jesse Smith & Mary Beals.

Could the parents of Melissa Smith buried in Galt East Cemetery indeed be Jesse & Mary (Beals) Smith?
