Moses Bailey/Baley is said to have married Mary L. Shepard around 1870 in MO. They lived in Franklin Co. MO. There are censuses from 1880 to 1910 showing him with wife Mary L. or Mrs. M.L. or Mary M.
My problem is that I can't find any evidence that Moses married Mary Shepard/Shepherd--except for those censuses and hearsay. The only documented marriage I can find is Moses W. Baley to Elizabeth Stiples or Staples in Franklin Co. MO 1871--I've forgotten the exact date but FamilySearch, Vien Ici, & Ancestry.com all have it. It's like he married Elizabeth but lived with Mary.
My other problem is that I haven't been able to find out when Moses's wife died. In the 1920 census he's living with his daughter Ora (Bailey) Hayes and his wife isn't enumerated. It says he's "M" for married. Why didn't it say he was "W" for widowed?
Does anyone have any ideas about these questions?
