Buck Stafford shot and killed his wife Minnie's father Hyram E. Swearengin in an argument. My mother was a Swearengin but our branch of the Swearengin family was feuding with Hyram and his branch also. Hyram and his brother George were the subjects of a Baldknobber whipping raid led by their uncle, my gg-grandfather, Levi Swearengin. Supposedly, according to family tradition, George and Hyram were whipped for being wife beaters. Levi Swearengin was tried and convicted as a baldknobber and got three months in the county jail.
