Answering my own questions....Gabriel Marion Scott was, indeed, Dr. Robert Franklin James "Dr. Frank". He had gotten into Dutch according to his descendants, but no one seems to know what for or where. He did practice medicine in SE OKLA after his 2nd marriage, but his medical certificate was fake. He changed his name sometime between 1880-1888 and lived in NW ARK for some part of that time. He married his 2nd wife in Ft. Smith in July, 1888 under the name of Robert Franklin James. All of his sons lived close by Gabriel in OK. He had many descendants between his two marriages, and they all were given the surname of James....even the lst five, sons of Serilda, who were born Scotts.

His lst wife, Serilda Eslinger, may have been buried in the Alma, AR area. It was also told by some descendants that Gabriel possibly fathered his last son, Homer Love, with his step-daughter, Arrena Cunningham. Perhaps that had something to do with the name change and moving away...plus his father was a preacher as was his brother, uncles, and others in his family?

There are still a lot of unanswered questions about the whys and wherefores, but I know that he was buried in Sardis, OK in 1933...and, of course, his fake birth date was put on the headstone.

Don't know what ever happened to Arrena Cunningham.

Karen
