Ira Boone Atchison was born Oct. 2, 1878, in Vernon County, MO. His parents were Nathan and Rebecca Alexander Atchison. He had four brothers: Tommy, Orville, Lonnie, and Clayton and two sisters: Myrtle and Hattie.
His parents homesteaded land in Douglas County sometime around the turn of the century.
Ira married Charity Margaret Stark, Nov. 29, 1911, by a Mr. Nevils, with witnesses, Walter Taylor and Willliam H. Stark.
They had five children? Homer Leo, born Jan. 21, 1913, Neal David, Feb. 12, 1916, Pauline Sylvia, July 19, 1919, Emerson Edmond, July 7, 1922, and Earl Wayne, May 9, 1928.
They lived on a farm in Douglas County and each child had chores to do. Attending school and church as also a must.
Homer, their oldest child died when he was eight years old.
Neal married Ethel Marshall, April 19, 1944. While serving in the Army, during WWII, he was catured by the Germans and held prisoner of war for 102 days. After the War, he and Ethel lived in Wright county, where he farmed and owned a furniture store. Neal was killed in an auto accident, Oct. 9, 1968. He had no children.
Pauline married Lester Vaughn April 16, 1938, in a double wedding with her cousin Laverne Taylor and Verlin Rogers. They have lived in Douglas and Wright counties all their life, except for a few years in California. They had two children, Jeanne and Harold, Jeanne married Ted Hammack, they had two daughters, Michelle and Andrea. Michelle Lyon had one son, Kyle. Michelle died at the age of 34. Andrea Hackett had two children, Ciarra and Cody. All live in California. Harold married Leah Bradshaw. They had three sons, Ryan, Mark and Clint, and live on a farm near Norwood.
Emerson served in the Army from Oct. 1842, to January 1846. He married Bertha Shores May 13, 1846. They had three sons, Eddie, Johnny, and Ronnie. Eddie married Pat Dawson and had four children: Jeannie, Toby, Cody and Shyla. Johnny married Karolyn Kaufman and had three children: Renee, Nathan and Justin. Ronnie married Janet Vonallen and had three children: Duane, LeAnn and Roman. Emerson retired from Mansfield Steel Co., in 1985. They now live in Norwood.
Earl served in the Army from 1950 to 1952. He married Nola Faye Thornhill in 1952. He owned a furniture and antique store in Mountain Grove until he retired in 1990. They had no children.
Ira died Feb. 9, 1963. Charity died Jan. 4, 1974. They are both buried at Oak Forest Cemetery.
