Pauline - My e-mail service has been down all week, so this is the only way I can touch base. YES, the Fresno obits you found are positive proof that Samuel G. Mahaffey died in 1921 in Fresno, CA, NOT 1898 in Missouri. One of the survivors listed is S.J. Mahaffey, who was my GG. It was his WIFE, Mary I. Smith, who died in 1898 in Missouri.

In fact, I have touched base with a decendent of Samuel G.'s son, James. She mailed me a photo of Mary's grave and other Mahaffeys at the Bowers Chapel Cemetery near Urbana, MO. I've been there many times and never saw this grave, so this was quite a discover. She also send considerable other materials including a photo of Samuel G. I will write more via regular e-mail when my service is restored!
