My mother and her father always kept clippings from the newspaper. I am posting them in hopes that they will help someone.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Anna Sweaney were conducted Oct. 21 in the Rainbow Chapel Memorial Park, Whittier, Calif. The officiating minister was Dr. Alister Sinclair. The soloist sang "I Won't Have to Cross Jordan Alone" and "Amazing Grace" and was accompanied by the organist.
Mrs. Sweaney, the daughter of Frnak and Edith M. Stearns was born in Saline, Kan. Jan. 11, 1894. She died Oct. 17 in Costa Mesa, Calif. She had moved there with her husband Jerry Sweaney in Oct. of 1978 to be near his daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband , her parents, and two brothers, Petty and Harvey Stearns.
She spent most of her life near Buffalo and had taught in Dallas county schools for 47 years. She was County Superintendent of Schools from 1939-1947. In 1962 Anna Stearns Day was held in recognition of her accomplishments and she retired that year. She was a member of the Missouri Federation of Women's Clubs, Inc., Buffalo Culture Club and the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, Alpha Tau Chapter. She was ? the First Chris? ? of Buffalo.
