Don - and Betty, too: The 1840 Polk County census lists a Samuel Evans with 2 males under 5 and 1 male 30-40, and 2 females 20-30. The plot thickens with a wife, Sally, in 1850, and a marriage to a Nancy Riddles in 1836. So who was the other female in the household in 1840? The wife's sister perhaps?

I'll bet he had two marriages and our Henry Foster Evans, born in 1837 may have a different mother than we think. Sally in 1850 may be a step-mom.
