Thank you Karen, for your offer to help. I am no longer confident that my information about my grandmothers' birth is accurate. It is 2nd hand and had varied through the telling. I believe Maude May Dorsey was b. 03 May, 1889/90 in Pilot Grove, Mo. daughter of James Dorsey,(b. abt. 1845/48) and wife Mollie(Milly?) Durham? Even the spellings are suspect.
Maud Dorsey was said to be of Cherokee Indian descent.No proof of whether the Dorsey or Durham merge produced the Indian blood. No proof or confirmation from anyone has been found. Maud supposedly was orphaned about 1900 in Mo. and may have married in St. Louis (unknown) before marrying John Arthur in 1912 in Dallas,Tx. The last living child of Maude Dorsey Arthur seems to know as little as I have found.
I believe this is one of those mysteries I will not solve. However, I would be so grateful for any information you might have to offer. Thank you. Carol Jones
