· Joseph Wood born in PA or VA between 1750 and 1760. Joseph Wood lived in Tennessee but by 1820 had moved with his wife and most of his children to Cooper County, Missouri. He died in Cooper Co. between 1830-40. His wife died there in August 1825. We believe that our Wood family migrated from Pennsylvania through Kentucky to Tennessee, so there could definitely be Woods from our line that stayed in Kentucky. Our Wood family does have at least one line that lived in Whitley Co., KY. The Wood line that lived in Whitley Co. Kentucky started in Tennessee and then moved to Kentucky about 1830. His name was Jeriah Wood, son of David Wood who was a proven son of Joseph Wood. John & David Wood lived and died in Cocke Co., Tennessee. Both men are proven sons of Joseph Wood and both were born in Pennsylvania. Joseph Wood lived in Tennessee but by 1820 had moved with his wife and most of his children to Cooper co. Missouri. He died in Cooper Co. between 1830-40. His wife died there in August 1825. The children of Joseph Wood we believe are: John - proven son David - proven son Elizabeth - proven daughter Jesse - proven to be a brother to Alexander Andrew - proven to be connected by circumstantial evidence Alexander - proven to be connected by circumstantial evidence Levi - proven son Jeriah - proven son The circumstantial evidence for Alexander to be a son of Joseph Wood is fairly strong. He lived near Levi and Jeriah Wood. He owned land with Jeriah Wood and he and Jeriah Wood owned land separately that had previously been owned by Joseph Wood. He named sons, Andrew and Levi. He was witness to Andrew Wood's will. He purchased items at the probate sale of Levi Wood. He also purchased at the probate of one of Jeriah Wood's daughters. I also believe he purchased at the estate sale of Levi Wood's son, Jeriah Wood. Alexander is mentioned in a letter Joseph Wood wrote in Aug. 1825 to his sons John and David Wood in Tennessee. "Alexander's wife has got another daughter and calls it Elizabeth." Alexander Wood researchers know that their Alexander did have a daughter, Elizabeth, born in Cooper Co. Missouri in August 1825. So we have the circumstantial evidence but need the DNA to prove it beyond a doubt. Recently, a descendant of Samuel B. Wood of Kentucky has shown up on the Wood DNA project page to match with a descendant of the Alexander Wood that we are trying to match our know Joseph Wood line to. We are all speculating as to where he fits in. Does he come from David Wood's son, Jeriah's line? Or is this a line that came from Pennsylvania and stayed in Kentucky? There are several researchers of a Wood family in Mifflin Co., PA. This Wood family moved to Cleremont County, OH. However, some believe a portion of them moved into Kentucky. It is a controversy among them. I mention them because we speculate, and I mean just speculate, that our Wood line could be connected to them. We know that John, David and Jesse Wood were born in Pennsylvania, probably Elizabeth too. The names of the Wood family that moved to Ohio match to ours. Their prominent names are: John, Joseph, David, Jeriah and Levi. All names that appear in our Wood line a lot! Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Shelia Notify Administrator about this message?
