My cousins and I have been researching Leonard Morgan STONE's family for several years. His father, Henry, reported to the Union Army that he had been born in Logan County, VA (now WV) in 1840.
I wrote to Logan County and all of the STONEs seem to fit Elias and Annie STONEs family more than mine. Could there be a connection that none of us have seen? I know Harry Stone, the Boonville postman, and he said that there was no connection. Nearly everything I find or receive in the mail, though, comes back to Elias and Annie.
Another interesting thing...
My Henry's militia unit was responsible for chasing Anderson and Quantrill. One of Quantrill's raiders was a man named Henry Stone who was about the same age and from the same area of Cooper County as my Henry Stone. The raider named Henry died in 1878. My Henry seems to have hid from the government for about 20 years (his wife's name is on the census records as head-of-house). Being that both Henrys were from the same area of Cooper County, it is possible that my Henry was being confused for the other.
If you are related to Elias Stone, or the confederate Henry Stone, I would really like to hear from you. Also, if you are related to the Scott County, VA "STONE" family of 1850, I would like to talk to you too. We also have some names in common.
