MELISSA SCOTT was born in Clay County, Missouri in l829, died in Leon, Iowa, October 26th, l9l7, aged 88 years. In slave times she was married to MR. HART. To this union were born four children, two sons and two daughters. Both sons preceded her to the spirit world. Soon after the Civil War, MRS. HART was united in marriage to WASHINGTON THOMASON. To this union were born five children, three sons and two daughters; of these only one son and two daughters survive her.
About four o'clock Friday morning the home of MRS. THOMASON was discovered to be on fire, and the alarm was sent in. It was soon learned that the aged occupant of the home had perished in the flames.
MRS. THOMASON was reared among Methodist people before the war, and while not a member of any church, her faith was strong in the Master, and she led a Christian life. She leaves one son, two daughters, and many other relatives and friends to mourn her tragic death. The funeral services were held Saturday, October 27th, at the M.E. Church. The services being in charge of the Pastor, Rev. Brooks. Interment followed in the Leon Cemetery.
