While searching for another Chariton County MO marriage on's Missouri Marriages 1805-2002, I noted the following, recorded just beneath it:

Filed in Chariton Co MO, Jan 28, 1878 by G. P. Beswick, Minister of the Gospel:

"This is to certify that on the 16th day of Oct. A. D. 1877 in Chariton County Mo. I solemnized the rites of matrimony between Samuel & Eliza HERNDON (colored) in their house in presence of their family. Their childrens' names and ages are as follows: Andrew HERNDON, born July 13th, 1845; Nancy HERNDON, born June 10th, 1849; Louis HERNDON, born Sept 15th, 1851; Martha HERNDON, born July 10th, 1856; Willis HERNDON, born July 6th, 1859; Francis Ann HERNDON, born July 8th, 1861; Robert Lee HERNDON, born Sept 1st, 1865; Willie HERNDON, born Sept. 2nd, 1867; Jacob Herndon, born April 22nd, 1872; Mat Tippet HERNDON, born Aug. 27th, 1872 (sic)."

About 1883 Samuel HERNDON received an invalid's pension for Civil War service in the Union Army. The pension image shows the following units: Co. C 2nd Mo Col'd Infantry; Co. H 64th USC Infantry; and Co. C, 65th USC Infantry. Source

I hope this information will be of help to other researchers.
