I passed through Carroll County looking up cemeteries and general info on the Woolseys and Sims. Discovered the headstone of Margaret Brand Steiner Struck in the Gilead cemetery. Because of the very limited time availble (an Aunt from the other side of the family tree graciously took me while I was stranded in Sedalia) I was unable to follow up at the genealogy room in the Carrollton Library.
We were beginning to think Michael Steiner was a figment of our imagination when a contact reported a Michael Steiner of the appropriate age enlisted in the 65th Regiment in the Civil War. This source shows him being in the military though April 30, 1863. Another source says he died 2 weeks after returning from the Civil War. So the death date would be in May 1863.
Any info I can find on Michael Steiner would be appreciated. I am also investigating a possible link to 3 Steiner brothers (Christian, Julius, and Frank) of Austria of a similar age settling in DeKalb County.
