Am researching family and descendants of B. F. Smith of
Wakenda Twp., Carrollton, Carroll Co., MO. Present in
1870 Census. Moved to Leadville, CO by 1880 where it is
thought he was engaged in mining. B. F. Smith was justice
of the peace in Carroll Co., MO. B. F.'s daughter Mary
may have wed in Carroll Co., MO.
Elmus Smith, son of B. F., wed a woman named Bettie,
probably in Carroll Co., MO. Elmus partnered with J. T.
Goodson in a dry goods business in Carrollton, MO. Elmus
and Bettie resided Golden Lake Co., Colorado in 1880
where he was a grocer.
Joel W. Smith, partnered with men named Daniels and
Fisher in Leadville Dry Goods business. Store eventually
became May D & F.
A 1911 letter by Elizabeth Austin of Carroll Co., MO
revealed that a cousin of hers wed a son of B. F. Smith.
Names not recorded in letter. I believe Elizabeth Austin
was quite involved in genealogy and local history of
Carroll Co., Missouri. A. E. Austin, Historian, Carrollton
Would anyone know who Elizabeth Austin was? She also
revealed in her letter that her father was past 88 years
of age, still living, and was one of the early settlers of
Carroll Co., MO. Would anyone know who her cousin was
that wed a son of B. F. Smith. Both B. F. Smith and son
were dead at the writing of the letter in 1911.
