I wish I would have seen your query a year earlier as I live in Perry County where the Historical Society has a wide variety of genealogy books published. Your families are mentioned numerous times and eventually I can see if either had a will or probate records. This is what I have found that you have not mentioned. Bertha Ann Dewein's parents were John, Sr. & Magdalena (Hooss) and are buried in Perryville. John, Sr. was born 8 May 1836 and died 20 May 1918. Magdalena was born 21 Oct 1846 and died 8 Oct 1901. John Sr. was in the Civil War - Co A First MO Cav - this is probably engraved on his headstone in Home Cemetery.(There is an obit mentioned in the CIVIL WAR book Perry Co. published). An article in the PERRYVILLE UNION newspaper states his death as "...died at his residence, Mr. John Dewein, Sr. aged 69 years, came to theis county some seven years ago from Indiana". The funeral home records said he was survived by 7 children in 1918. In the 1900 Perry County census, Magdalena stated she had 11 children and 7 were alive. Bertha Ann married Raizon Lawrence Bishop on 28 Aug 1904 (Marriage book 7, page 154) R. Lawrence's parents were Raizon Lawrence & Rosa (Simmons) Bishop. Going back another generation: Raizon Lawrence Bishop's parents were William and Sarah (Moore) Bishop and Rosa Simmons Bishop's parents were Bruno & Ann (Kennison) Simmons. These are mentioned in some St. Mary's Catholic (Assumption) Church records. The elder Raizon Lawrence Bishop was born 6 Dec 1852 and died 22 Nov 1899--Rose Ann was born 4 Oct 1854 and died 2 May 1943 -all buried at Mt. Hope Catholic Cemetery in Perryville. The younger Raizon, who married Bertha, was born 8 Oct 1882 and died 17 May 1917 and Bertha was born 7 Nov 1882 and died 14 Oct 1938. Now to answer your last question as to Berth'a sisters name --- PERRY COUNTY REPUBLICAN NEWSPAPER, dated 21 April 1898 "marriage in St. Mary's Seminary, April 17, Herman LOEFFEL to Miss Minnie DEWEIN, daughter of John Dewein". If there is ANYTHING you want copies of or some other information, please contact me at kastenre@ldd.net. I will gladly help you with Cape and Perry county information. God's blessings, Ruth of Perryville Notify Administrator about this message?
