Try Arkansas. Columbus J. Smith had a son named Ambrose, right? An Ambrose Smith married Nancy Jane Duke. They had a son named Columbus, as you will see below. It seems likely that Ambrose would name a son after his father. Ambrose and Nancy J. were first in Izard Co., AR. and then apparently in Yell Co., AR, when Ambrose died in the late 1890s. Nancy's daughter Emma was eventually married to my grandmother's brother, John W. Anderson in Yell County. John and Emma Anderson are buried in the Tyro Cemetery of Lincoln Co., AR. 1880 Census of Izard County, Ark. DUKE John A -- age 55, a Carpenter, born in TN. Father born in NC. Mother born in AR Note: Ambrose and Nancy Smith were living in the household next to the J. A. Duke family -- her folks. 1900 Yell County, AR Wilson Township June 13th, 1900 Nancy J. Smith, head of household, was 38 years old, born August 1861. Both parents were born in Tennessee. Columbus Smith, a son, age 18. Born January 1882 in Arkansas. Emma Smith, a daughter, age 15, born October 1884 in Arkansas. Francis Smith, a daughter, age 9, born October 1890. Cleo Smith, a son, age 7, born Aug. 1892.
