Hi, Gary, Thanks for responding. In 2005 the Columbia Public Library reference desk librarian said that she had checked the Fulton Telegraph/Missouri Telegraph as that was the only paper that covered St. Aubert/Mokane in that time period (1876). Moses J. Renfro had lived in St. Aubert for only a few years, having moved from Macoupin County, IL. His Mexican War Pension papers indicated that he died in St. Aubert but don't explain why he moved there. I suspect his daughter, Martha Ann Renfro Murphy, may have been in the area. His grandson spent 60 years (1895 to 1955) in the Fulton State mental hospital, but that wouldn't explain Moses' presence in the area in the 1870s, of course (unless Martha was in the institution in the 1870s. I can't find her on any cesuses for 1880.) Rita Notify Administrator about this message?
