Which library did you have check for his obit. One problem with obits from these dates are that they were for the most part, one or two lines in length. I do a lot of obit lookups in Columbia at the State Historical Society and some(lots) of these older papers have water damage and unreadable area on the pages. Some deaths were mentioned under Deaths, some were just in the community news.
