Hi, I've been trying to research the Thomas Mitts family for quite some time now. I haven't been able to find out anything on Thomas Mitts parents or where he came from before TN (I've been spending most of my time trying to figure out who Bird's parents were). My line is through Bird A. Spaugh/Mitts who according to the 1870 Census records was Thomas's grandson. He was in the household at the same time as your Caroline. I don't know if I'd have any information that you don't already have but you can email me and we can compare notes if you want to.
