hello im lokking for any information on my great grand fater john spratley.he lived 8 miles east of warsaw on a farm he homsteded.he was a shoemaker by trade so im thinking he made shoes in warsaw because i know he worked in warsas---Died -- at his home on Spring Creek, eight miles east of Warsaw, April 28, 1907, of a kidney trouble, John Spratley, aged 85. Many friends of this cheery old man will learn with regret of his death. Although he possessed of few of this world's goods, there are few men who apparently enjoyed life better or lived a more industrious life. He was a natural musician and many thousands of people, young and old, have enjoyed his music and he was always good-natured enough to serve the public at religious and other meetings, picnics and concerts. He was proficient with the fife, flute and violin and was also a bass singer. Mr. Spratley was born in England and came with his parents to Pittsburgh, Pa. when a boy. There he served an apprenticeship at shoemaking and afterwards worked in Philadelphia. He was always a close reader of newspapers and had a good memory of current events. He was as fond of stories and poetry as a girl. He came to Missouri in 1868 and homesteaded the land on which he lived and died. For many years, he worked at his trade in Warsaw and when he had no horse to take from the farm he made the walk quickly afoot, staying in town several days at a time. He kept in good health until recently, although he had a premonition that he would die at the age of 85, which was the age of his father at the time of his death. It is not unlikely that his death was caused by overwork. He leaves nine children, having survived two wives. He was a long-time member of the Methodist South Church. Burial in the family grave lot.i pasted the info i have.i would like to find there lot and put a lasting marker on it.so any information or any place i can look would be greatly recieved. god bles and take care--albert spratley.
