Jacob and Caroline Smith, Walnut Township, Bates County, MO
Posted by: Charlene Michel (ID *****5547) Date: December 24, 2002 at 05:35:51

I am trying to locate information on the Jacob and Caroline Smith family. Their daughter, Nancy, was my grandmother. The family is listed in the 1870 Bates County, Missouri census: Jacob-60-Blacksmith-born in Virginia
Caroline-55-also born in Virginia
Elizabeth-25- born in Virginia--later married Peter Speece, I think.
John-20- born in Virginia
Nancy-17- born in Virginia
Alphus-15-born in Virginia
Mariah-12-Female-born in Illinois
March(?)-11-Female-born in Illinois
Edward-8-born in Illinois
In the 1880 census Caroline is head of household with John and Edward still at home. Alphus is married to Emily with no children listed. Jacob Smith is listed in the Woodfin Cemetery records--died 23 March 1878--67 years, 2Mo-26da.
Caroline is in the same cemetery as wife of Jacob Smith
23 August 1821-21 August 1890. Any help with this brick wall most appreciated.
