The descendants of the 12 Pioneer Families who came to what was Barry County (Mo) in the late 1830's to mid 1840's will hold their Diamond Jubilee 75 Year Reunion on the 3d Sunday weekend, September 20, 2009 at Monett City Park Casino with an old fashion buffet style luncheon and family gathering.

These families came to the SW corner of Missouri from Allen, Barren, Hopkins Counties Kentucky, Sumner Co. Tennessee as well as the Carolinas and Virginia where the grandchildren often intermarried with siblings resulting in close family ties and double first cousins in the family tree history.

Descendants of Samuel Moseley Hewlett, Reuben Woods and George Brite were organizers of became Lawrence County in May 1845. Later, these same families' childrens who were already residing in the Pierce, Mount Plesant and Mount Vernon townships, relocated to the surrounding Cassville, Purdy townships of Barry County, Newtonia, Neosho, Granby in Newton County, Joplin in Jasper County and Springfield, Greene Counties. The Reunion membership is at 352 families in 38 of the 50 States and includes major representation from: Missouri, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas, Texas, Indiana, Ohio, New Mexico, Arizona, Oregon and California.

This 75 Year Diamond Jubilee will celebrate the families and their descendants. It is a buffet style luncheon where everyone brings a covered dish and shares their meal, basking in stories of grandparents and siblings who developed the region. The casino has full kitchen for warming casseroles, breads and like as well as table service

Contact me for more information regarding times, photos, maps, cemetery locations and other queries.

We are in the process of gathering family histories of the families reference in John Jasper Spilman's 1909 publication "Spilman Family History", but seek to have collected family histories to the other 8 families that contributed to the 12 Pioneer Families Reunion as it is now.
Gabriel Boucher-Mary Smith, Albertus/Tobias Bright/Brite-Rachel Goodwin, Leonard Cagle-Elizabeth Smith Cagle, Abigail Smith/Samuel M Hewlett Sr, Oliver P Mann/Jeannette Moody, Jordan Morris-Nancy Button, Isaac Moody-Malinda Bonner, Joseph Schooling, John Spilman-Mary Boucher, Benjamin Woods/Elizabeth Winters, Edward and Nancy Hassell Wormington are the Progenitors.

Anybody with ties to these early settlers is welcomed. This September 20, 2009 Registration will begin at 11 am with buffet style luncheon at the Casino Building and a business meeting afterwards. Saturday, Sep 19, is tentative to have a group meeting for those who are genealogy researchers and want to connect with other cousins or distant relatives and exchange information. This special meeting will most likely be a hotel or an area library depending upon queries to have contacts with other allied researchers and cousins.

See you 11 a.m. Sunday, September 20, 2009 for the 75 Yr Diamond Jubilee Reunion of 12 Pioneer Families. The Reunion will convene at 5 pm.
