Ashbel Van Scyoc

I am looking for any info on this man. He was listed ont he 1836 Iowa Territorial Census for the Des Moines area (according to the transcript notation I found). I know a related group of Van Scyocs (various spellings) went through the area of Andrew Co., ca 1840-1850.

I believe he may be a son, or close relative, of Cornelius and Almira Goodrich Van Scyoc of Marion Co., IN (who came from Ohio Co., VA.)

Almira had a brother, or close relative, who served in the war of 1812 with a Cornelius Van Scyoc, named Ashbel Goodrich.

All migrate west....

He is, I feel certain, the same man listed on the 1850 Fremont Co., IA census as "A.V. Shyhock" and later on subsequent state census' (1852,54,56) as A. Van Syock and Van Sycoc.

Names associated with this man, in Fremont Co., IA, include: MUSTARD, KEELER, FLETCHER, FARLEY, GOODRICH....
