Letter from a neighbor to Gulielma to inform of her father's death circumstances Saturday, P.M. PickWick Nov. 25, 1865 Mrs. Sutherland, Your Mother received your letter of date 12th inst. She had written your sister Mary and did not have time to write you of your father's sickness. He was sick five weeks. I presume your sister sent you the letter but at that time they thought your father better, but he did not prove to be but has gradually failed and grown weak, could not talk but very little during his sickness, but spoke of you all but) a day or two before he died and said he should like to see you all. He died 22inst. Wednesday morn about five o'clock. (He) died very easy, without a struggle. Your Mother had been over him days and a great deal nights - got very tired. She is not able to sit up at all. I think she is quite billious) but we hope she is not going to be sick long. Your father was/(New Page)/went so uncomplaining. We all felt we could not part with him for he was loved and respected by everyone. You have lost a kind father and we a kind friend and neighbor but in the midst of life we are in death. Arthur lost his darling baby boy about the time your father was taken sick. Arthur had a long fight of sickness in August. It seems that they are having more than their share of trouble(s) but He who is wiser than man orders all things for the best. His ways are not our ways. You ask if your mother (is) in town. It is but a small place. The large flowing (or flouring) mill is the principle business of the place. It is about 112 miles from Winona City and about 25 miles from LaCreasant. Wish you lived where you could be with your mother, as she needs the sympathy and love of kind friends in her afflictions. Your father's family have seemed near to me since since Arthur boarded with me after his wife died until married again. With much respect, Mrs. M. M. Grannis Notify Administrator about this message?
