I am looking for any information on the ROBERTS' HOTEL, which was located in Philbrook, MN and built sometime before the turn of the century. It might still be there, but I don't think it is. My ggreat-grandparents, WILLIAM BAKER ROBERTS and HANNAH (HUSTON) ROBERTS owned the hotel and my ggrandparents JAMES HUFF and KITTIE BELLE (ROBERTS) HUFF (also referred to as Katie) had their wedding reception there as well. I know it was still there when my grandmother, HATTIE (HUFF) POUND was young (AFT 1908) and I believe it was there long after that as well. I would like any info on this place, photos, etc. I have a few newspaper clippings from the Staples World that speak of the hotel, but no real information about it, besides what my grandmother has told me. Anything about HANNAH (HUSTON) ROBERTS' ancestors would also be greatly appreciated.
I am also looking for info on a general store in Philbrook that my grandfather THEODORE ELZA POUND worked at in the 1930's. I am told it was owned by a member of one of the SMITH families in Philbrook -- Possibly LEONARD SMITH, who is mentioned as my grandfather's employer in an article about the train accident that his family was in 1932 (the whole POUND family, except for Ted, was in this crash, one child, THEODORE (BUDDY) POUND, was killed and another lost his arm. If anyone remembers this accident or has more info on it than the Staples World article that would help as well).
I am trying to find some of the places where my ancestors lived, some may still be there, some may not...
First I am looking for the original HUFF FARM, which was owned first by BENJAMIN FRANKLIN HUFF and OLIVE (OREM) HUFF. It was located in Villard Township (between Motley and Philbrook) and was owned by GLENN EDWIN HUFF and BESSIE (SHINABARGER) HUFF until approximately 15 years ago. I believe they lived there until that time, and then moved to Motley. I am also looking for the church(es) that B.F. HUFF preached at, he was a methodist minister, ordained in 1912.
Also would like to find a home that was referred to as the "KELLY PLACE" in 1904. JAMES AND KITTIE BELLE (ROBERTS) HUFF occupied this home after Oct 1904.
KITTIE and her children, HATTIE, WOODROW, OLIVE, WILLIAM FRANKLIN (FRANK), OLIVER, and JAMES HUFF lived in Philbrook after JAMES HUFF's death in 1919. I am sure they lived in a smaller home and Kittie remained there until her death in 1941 (possibly a different home). I would like to find her home and the home of my grandmother and grandfather (HATTIE MAE (HUFF)POUND and THEODORE ELZA POUND.
I know this is tons of info that I am asking for, but I figure someone might have a little snippet of one thing or the other that can help me out. I have quite a few pictures of this family and a lot of info on the family members themselves if anyone else is researching. I would love to compare notes.
Thanks for taking the time to read this!
