Chris -- I took a quick look thru 1900 Holding township and found no Comptons at all. Where did Bart and/or Katie die?
I fully agree that census records are replete with errors... reasons are many, I'm sure. Language difficulties, parents not knowing when their own children were born, pet names rather than given names, transcription errors before getting to microfilm, retranscription errors going from microfilm to text files (the 1880 records I quote are retranscribed and available as text on the web), etc. -- Tom
