I am searching for documentation for Hans and Ole WORKEN, twin brothers, who came to Sacred Heart area in 1878 and 1800 respectively. They were born 1 Jan 1857 in Dovre, Gudbrandsdalen, Norway. They married sisters, Kari and Anne HAUGEN respectively. They owned farm lands in Sacred Heart and Ericson TWP. Each had children who continued to live on their old farmlands after their parents deaths.
I would like to find these land records. Does anyone know which Land Office would have these records? I cannot find on the internet this surname in Minnesota Land Records. My interest in this family is that Hans and Kari WORKEN were the great grandparents and my children, through their oldest daughter, Marie, who was born in Ericson TWP in 1887.
They had a nephew, Lars WORKEND, who came to Renville Co in 1903 from Norway. He married Ingeborg LOLAND in about 1908.
They lived in Wang TWP and owned farm land. They had five daughters born between 1911 and 1919. After the census of 1920, this family returned to Norway. I would also like to locate where they owned property in the Sacred Heart area.
This surname has had various spellings in legal documents and on census records. The Norwegian spelling was VORKIN, but generally it was spelled WORKEN in the U.S.
Thank you for any assistance you can give to aid me in documenting the location of their lands. I am willing to exchange information on these families, since I am working with relatives in Norway to complete this families' history.
