Vaclav was born on Sept. 3, 1855 in Cetoraz Bohemia. He married Mary Posekany on Jan. 24, 1881 in Chesea Iowa. Mary was also born in Cetoraz Bohemia, however came to America about a year after Vaclav. He became a naturalized citizen on Feb. 13, 1893 in Tama County Iowa. They had six children in Iowa before moving to Minnesota in 1893.
Vaclav purchase a farm in Section 31, Sheridan Township, in Redwood County. They purchased the land from a man who turned out to be a swindler and had to repurchase the land from the rightful owners, a railroad company. According to Collette (Pistulka) Irlbeck, Vaclav paid $960 for the 160 acres the first time he purchased it from the swindler and $1,760 the second time from the Railroad Company. They had four more children in Minnesota.
