One of the very best "free" places to search for French-Canadian family info is familysearch.org. They have all the Quebec Catholic Parish records online that you can use for your research at no cost.

Speaking of the Lachance family. Lawrence Lachance has a terrific web site you should check: lachance.org. I suspect you may find this family there.
