Good work Carolyn. I hope peg stops back to read your findings.

Peg's current query is this: "John William Hannon Born 1873 in Ivesdale, [Champaign], Illinois, died 1924 in Tracy, [Lyon], Minnesota and his brother Bernard [Barney] born 1874 in Ivesdale, Ill. died 1911 in Tracy, Mn. Looking for any info on them. Parents were Mary Theresa O'Halloran and John Hannon.

An earlier query re. John William Hannon's father, who has the same name: "John William Hannon was born in 1850-1851 in Peru/Lasalle, Illinois. His parents were Bernard and Olive [Traster], although on John's death certificate, his son George listed his mother as Bridget O'Rourke. Bernard and Olive were married in 1851? in Xenia, Ohio."

Peg also writes that John William Hannon Senior (born abt 1850) died in 1934 at his son George's house in Iowa.

The 1880 census you posted, Carolyn, is thus an interesting possibility to be the correct family, since Peg's John William Hannon Junior has relatives who repeat the children's names on that census. John Junior has:
* a father John
* a grandfather and a brother named Bernard/Barney
* a grandmother Olive
* a brother George

For convenience I'll call John b. about 1872 "John Junior" and his father b abt 1850 "John Senior."

That 1880 census you found, again:

1880 US CENSUS in Chicago, Cook, Illinois
John Hannon, age 29, laborer, born IL parents born Ireland
Mary, age 32, wife, born Ireland parents born Ireland
John, age 9, son, born IL <-----------------candidate for John Junior
Barnes, age 7, son, born IL
Olive, age 5, daughter, born IL
George, age 3, son, born IL
Mary, age 1, daughter, born IL

The following death record could be the same Olive as in the above 1880 census:

DEATH RECORD (from Family Search)

Death Date: 22 Dec 1907

Indexing Project (Batch) Number: B59632-4

John Junior's wife Rosa might be separated from John in 1910. There's a Rosa Hanon in Milwaukee, single, lodger (large household of mixed surnames - boarding house probably) born about 1881 in Minnesota.

In John Junior's World War I draft registration, he gives his name as John Junior (the junior is not added by me)

1918 World War I Draft Registration
John William Hannon junior
Springfield, Brown, Minnesota
Age 45, born November 10, 1872
Native born citizen
Present occupation: bartender, employer Bernhardt (?) and Volxxxx (?) in Springfield
Nearest relative: John W. Hannon, address Garvin (?), Lyon, Minnesota
Medium height, stout build, blue eyes, black hair
Signed: John William Hannon (very hard to read signature)

The following version of the death record for John Junior from Family Search shows his parents' names:

Name: John W. Hannon
Death Date: 12 Feb 1925
Death Place: Russell, Lyon, Minnesota
Age: 52 Birth Date: 1873
Father's Name: John W. Hannon
Mother's Name: Mary O. Hallarn
Family Search Indexing Project (Batch) Number: B02485-8

There are a lot of Hannons and with similar or same first names, so it's a tough surname to research. There's another Barney Hannon, close in age to the brother of John Junior, in Murray County, Minnesota, with wife Grace. This Barney moves to California and his World War I draft registration card there (ca 1918) says he is Barney Francis Hannon born December 1878 in Ivesdale, Champaign, Illinois. The 1900 census has a Barney Hannon born December 1879 living in Sadorus, Champaign, Illinois. Moving back in time still more the 1880 census in Sadorus, Champaign, Illinois shows a B. Hannon age 28, wife Mary A Hannon age 23, and son Barney Hannon age 1. A family with that exact configuration shows up in 1885 in Shetck, Murray, Minnesota, with two more sons added (William and Henry).

Hope this added a little.
