From Wikipedia:
"Glendive is a city in and the county seat of Dawson County, Montana, United States.[2] The population was 4,935 at the 2010 census.[1]

The town of Glendive is located in Eastern Montana and is considered by many as an agricultural hub of Eastern Montana. The town itself is tucked between the Yellowstone River and the Badlands, named for the rugged terrain and jagged rock formations that are known to exist in the area."

The same article shows census data starting in 1880 with a population of 500.

Edgar A. Newton and Hattie M. Stanford were married on 5 June 1881 at Arcadia, Trempealeau, Wisconsin. Her parents were listed as E.M and E. Stanford; his parents were L.M. and Mary C. Newman. Edgar's place of birth was Rutland, Vermont; Hattie's place of birth was not given.

From the California Death Index:
name: Harvey G Newton
event: Death
event date: 14 Jan 1940
event place: Los Angeles, California, United States
birth date: 07 Mar 1882
birthplace: Montana
gender: Male
father: Newton
mother: Stanford

You could send to the State of California for a copy of the death certificate to see if there is more detailed information on it.
