My most favorite website for searching in Northern Minnesota, is the Iron Range Research Center in Eveleth Minnesota.

ironrangeresearchcenter.org

They have a database search feature. When you type in Holter, also change the

A Conrad Holter b. 1902 lived until 1999, and they have an obituary on file for him. I have sent for things from them before, used my VISA credit card or bank card to pay for it.

Obit/Death Record

First Name Last Name Middle Name
Conrad Holter E

AKA:
Maiden Name:
M/F: Male
Birth Date: 4/10/1902
Birth Place: Eveleth, MN
Date of Death: 12/2/1999
City: Aurora
County: STLOUIS
State: Minnesota
Age at Death: 97
Book No:
Reg No:
Page No: RGS 22
Volume: 23
Comments: picture included

It says that Conrad Holter was born in Eveleth, Minnesota (home of the US Hockey Hall of Fame, by the way.)

Also a Lenora Holter is in their database, so I think you are in the right area.

First Name Last Name Middle Name
Lenora Holter Christine

AKA: Braaten
Maiden Name:
M/F: Female
Birth Date: 10/25/1907
Birth Place: Isanti, MN

Age at Death: 92
Book No:
Reg No:
Page No: RGS 118
Obit on File:
Interment:
Cemetery: Forest Hill - Aurora, MN
OPage:

It says that Lenora's maiden name was Braaten, so that could be the other sister's maiden name too?

St. Louis County is the area where they lived, which also includes Duluth - it's a huge county.

They have a good website with online databases too.

You can also order Minnesota death records online,
http://people.mnhs.org/dci/Search.cfm?bhcp=1

Search Holter in St. Louis county.

HOLTER, CONRAD E.
Date of Birth: 10 Apr 1902
Place of Birth: MINNESOTA
Mother Maiden Name: ALSGAARD
certid# 1999-MN-036850
Date of Death: 02 Dec 1999
County of Death: st. louis

Was Conrad's mother Norwegian farm name or Swedish name Alsgaard by any chance?

HOLTER, LENORA CHRISTINE
Date of Birth: 25 Oct 1907
Place of Birth: MINNESOTA
Mother Maiden Name: FROEN
certid# 2000-MN-025701
Date of Death: 28 Aug 2000
County of Death: st. louis

His birth record is also available

Holter, Conrad Edward
Date of Birth: 10 Apr 1902
Mother Maiden Name: Alsgaard
certid# DC-64243
County of Birth: St. Louis

Here is another birth record, which shows a Holter with a mother's maiden name of Braaten, so either Conrad's and Lenora's son, or the brother's and wife's son.

Holter, Dale Everett
Date of Birth: 13 Nov 1932
Mother Maiden Name: Broaten
certid# 1932-24444
County of Birth: St. Louis

The good news about the Dale Everett birth record is it puts Conrad and Lenora together as a married couple.

And Dale Holter may still be living.

Holter, Doris Annette
Date of Birth: 28 Apr 1928
Mother Maiden Name: Braaten
certid# 1928-25925
County of Birth: St. Louis

Holter, Emma
Date of Birth: 07 Oct 1929
Mother Maiden Name: Braaten
certid# 1929-24026
County of Birth: St. Louis

Holter, Robert Glen
Date of Birth: 26 Jul 1928
Mother Maiden Name: Braaten
certid# 1928-25931
County of Birth: St. Louis

There is a genealogist who has helped with some of the St. Louis County genealogy named Judy Holter - lholter@cpinternet.com

I know it's a long shot, but sometimes there are amazing coincidences in genealogy searching. Email her!

Could Karin have Americanized her name to Carrie, (which was common for Karin) Caroline, or something like that?

I think this is a start anyway,
