Halvor Vetleson & Berget Thoresen Larsdatter

I am looking for information about Halvor Vettleson born in 1860 Winneshiek Iowa. His parents were Vetle Torjussen and Martha Halvorsdatter. they moved to Otter Tail MN I am not sure what yaer but Halvors mother Martha died in 1878 at Otter Tail. then as an adult Halvor married a woman named Berget Thoresen Larsdatter 7-7-1887 also in Otter Tail MN. they moved to the Oklee MN area where Berget died in 1904 they had 7 or 8 children. one of them children Thea Vettleson is my relative. after Berget passed away Halvor went to Spokan Wash. where he died in 1944. my question is why he would leave for wash. and leave his younger kids behind to be raised by other family members?
