In my continuing search on Robert Morgan I have found in most sources <1> Robert is listed as a passenger on the ship fortune in 1621, (even though Robert's name does not appear on the ships passengers list), from Plymouth he is said to have gone to the Saco Valley River Settlement where he had a disagreement with Richard Vines, left his holdings and settled in what is now Beverly. After much research I have been unable to establish Robert of Saco and Robert of Beverly as the same person. According to the Pioneers of Maine Rivers by Wilbur Daniel Spencer pg 188: " Morgan, Robert b. 1602 sailed from Gravesend, England 20 Jun 1635 in the ship "Phillip"; Saco, 1636; Pemaquid, 1640; had land from Clark and Lake at Woolwich before 1655; living 1673; wife Mary." I have also searched in the Mane State Library, Maine State Archives, Saco City Hall, Biddeford City Hall, Biddeford Public Library; Ms. Sandy Broomfield, Dyer Library Saco, Me.; Ms Christine Cook of Plymouth Public Library, Plymouth, Ma.; . <2> Robert is named as the son of Thomas Morgan and Catherine Herbert, Machen and Tredegar, Wales. Through extensive search of resources: (Mr Gary Boyd Roberts Genealogist of NEHS Research library, Boston; Peabody Essex Museum Library, Salem; Lynnfield Public Library; Beverly Historical Society, Beverly Public Library, Beverly City Hall; Salem City Hall). Robert of Beverly cannot possibly be the son Of Thomas Morgan of Machen. In addition to speaking with the mentioned sources above a cousin I found obtained a copy of the will of Thomas Morgans of Machen, Wales written in 1664. Due to the will having been written in Welsh we were able to decipher part of the section on Robert. "to my yongest sonne Robert when he shall accomplish the age of one and twenty years the amount of two hundred and fifty pounds" In addition I have corresponded with Mr. David Morgan of The Morgan Society in London, England; ; Ms Andrea Weyhing of The National Headquarters of the American Colonists;Mr John Weston,webmater@data-wales; Mr Gary Zimmerman , of the Fisk Library Seattle, Washington Mr Roberts of NEHGS states that there is no documentation that shows where Robert of Beverly originated from. Some descendants of Robert I have corresponded with have looked as long as 20 years or more and are no closer to find any documentation of Roberts life before he is seen in Salem 1636. If there are any descendants willing to share information on Robert and his family please contact me personally. My research as led to California, Canada, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Vermont, North Dakota, Wisconsin Pennsylvania, and New Hampshire. Jeanne M.
