History of Fillmore Co.,Minn.,1882. Canton Twp.
James C.Rice b.4-20-1836 in Canada East. In 1856,he came to this township and pre-empted land in section 17,but soon after traded it for a portion of his present farm. Mr.Rice came here with very little means,but by good management has become the owner of 200 acres of fine farming land upon which there are good buildings. He was married on 3-15-1861,to Miss Catherine Bursell. They have 5 children.
Note:Their children all born in Minn.,on the 1880 Canton census were: Thomas 16,Ettie 14,James 9,Emery 5,
