Thanks again, Taryn, for all the info. I don't know if he left Alexandria ..that's one thing we're trying to find out. Of course, we're not sure what name he used so that makes it all the more difficult.
His mother, Anne Marie (Nilsdatter) Stener was my GGGM so I had quite a bit of that info but ALWAYS appreciate any info...you never know when there will be that info you missed at first glance.
Knud Karenius. came to Alexandria in July, 1882 on ship Angelo (see http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&filnamn=emikra1&gardpostnr=57163&merk=57163#ovre) The departure date was July 7, 1882. I believe another son of Karinus Bue also went to Alexandria...a Peder K. Bue. Peder may have moved on to California. I got that info from an individual in Washington State who is also trying to find the elusive Knud.
Thanks again for all your help.
