Hi Marg,
I feel like I should present some more information to you, even though I thought I found a good match in Trysil.

At the LDS (Mormon) website familysearch.org I did a search. I found this person.

Knudt <KARINUSEN>
Sex: M

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Event(s):
Birth: 13 Feb 1854 Place: <Aamot, Hedmark, Norway>
Christening: 03 Jul 1854 Place: Aamot, Hedmark, Norway

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Parents:
Father: Karinus KNUDSEN
Mother: Berthe PEDERSDR

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Source Information:
Batch Number: C440101
Source Dates: 1801 - 1877
Film or Fiche Number: 124465
Collection Details: Os; Den Norske Kirke

It says Collection details, Os, the Norwegian church. Could Os be Osen? Maybe.

Aamot is another area where Karinus was a name that was used, as was Trysil.

Here is the family on the 1865 census, and I think that the farm name could possibly be shortened to be Bue. (the second part of the name, Buøien.)
http://www.rhd.uit.no/folketellinger/ftliste_e.aspx?ft=1865&knr=0429&kenr=006&bnr=0009&lnr=000

Census year: 1865
Municipality: Åmot
Municipality number: 0429
Name of domicile: Løsset Buøien
Number of persons in this domicile: 9

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Name Family status Marital status Occupation Birth year Place of birth Ethnicity
Karinus Knudsen Husfader g Selveier 1824 Aamot
Berte Pedersdatter hans Kone g 1829 Aamot
Knud Karinussen deres Børn ug 1854 Aamot
Peder Karinussen deres Børn ug 1855 Aamot
Karl Karinussen deres Børn ug 1857 Aamot
Kari Karinusdatter deres Børn ug 1862 Aamot
Nikoline Karinusdatter deres Børn ug 1864 Aamot
Ahne M. Mikkelsdatter ug Tjenestepige 1847 Stange
Lars Larsen ug Dagarbeider, Jæger 1842

If this seems like it could be the family, I did find the sister Nikoline Karinusdatter on the 1900 census, married with children, still living in Aamot.

On the 1865 census from the Digital archives it shows that the subfarm called Buøien at the main farm Løsset in Aamot is numbered 72i. The census also shows that Karinus owns the subfarm there. They have 2 horses, 10 cattle, 14 sheep and 11 goats.

2776 11 Ahne M. Mikkelsd. Tjenestepige ug 19 k Stange
2777 12 Lars Lars. Dagarbeider, Jæger ug 24 m Stange

Knud is the oldest son, so technically he should have inherited the farm. But by 1886, this farm is in someone else's hands.

Here on the 1886 farm tax census, scroll down until you get to subfarm # 40 on the list, also numbered 72i, and it is called Buen. So I think that could be the origin of your name Bue that you had for the father.

Here is the Alexandria Knud Kareniusen emigrating from Oslo.
The Bue name seems to find the 1854 man, but the dates for this emigration seem to fit the 1852 Knud.

He's traveling with a Kristian Gundersen. It says they are from Osen parish church.

(leaving July 7, 1882, Knud Kareniusen, worker, male, age 30 from Osen. going to Alexandria. The ship is the J. Elster, on the Angelo shipping line.)

57164 1882 158 29 8194 1 07.07.1882 07.07.1882 Kristian Gunders. Arb m 23 Osen Alexandria 50 J. Elster Angelo 209 65 Fripas

This looks like Kristian Gundersen on the 1865 census for Trysil.

I can't shake this feeling that you perhaps have blended two people together to make one Knud Karinusen. I think there are two. The one from Osen in Trysil, who emigrated in 1882, and the one from Aamot, from Løsset main farm, Bue subfarm. I don't think they are the same person.
Where did you get your original information? Perhaps there was an error in that searching.

The fact that they had a specific destination of Alexandria means that they knew someone in the area they were going to, a relative, old neighbor, often with a promise of being a hired hand on the farm.

Sorry I can't help with the Alexandria info, but I hope that this might help you clarify your earlier information and see if you have the right data.

Taryn
