OBIT - Barnsville Record-Review October 1, 1925 pg 1 JOHN WEST PASSES AWAY IN HOSPITAL The death of John West, for many years a resident of this city, occurred at 2:45 Monday morning at St. Anagar's Hospital in Moorhead. Mr. West had been suffering for over a year with a cancer on one of his ears. He was in Minneapolis all last winter taking treatments and returned to Barnesville in June. He was at his home here only ten days when he entered St. Anagar's Hospital in Moorhead where he was confined until death brought him relief from his affliction. The remains were brought back to Barnesville and the funeral was held Wednesday afternoon at one o'clock from the Congregational church, Rev. Hedlund, pastor of the Episcopal church of Moorhead, officiating. Burial was in the city cemetery and the service at the grave was in charge of the local Masonic order, of which Mr. West was a member. The pall bearers were H. Rushfeldt, John H. Nelson, Oscar Aamodt, A. L. Fielde, Thos. Gunness and A. A. Carlson. Deceased was born in England Oct 7, 1847, death claiming him only a few days before he reached his 78th milestone. When he was six years old his parents moved to Canada, locating at Windsor in the Province of Ontario. Here Mr. West grew to manhood, and was married on July 13, 1870, to Rachel Penman at Kingsville, Ontario. About 50 years ago Mr. and Mrs. West located in St. Paul, Mr. West being an engineer for the Great Norther, running out of that city. Several years later they cam to Barnesville and conducted the West Hotel for many years. In 1903 the hotel was destroyed by fire and Mr. West again went to work for the Great Norther taking employment in the shops here. In 1912 Mr. and Mrs. West again entered the hotel business in this city, establishing the Central Hotel which they operated for five years. Mrs. West died about three years ago. Of ten children born to Mr. and Mrs. West only one now survives-Robert West of Tacoma, Wash. Mrs. Robert West came hier in June and his son arrived in August, both devoting their time in tenderly caring for Mr. West until the end. Notify Administrator about this message?
