John and Caroline Reid's connection to Boyces/Mortons

Can any reader tell me what familial connection there was between John H. or Caroline Reid, both born in Vermont (I believe) and the Mortons or the Boyces? In 1860, Silas F. Boyce, 11, born WI, and George S. Morton, 2, born MN lived with the Reids, ages 47 and 41, who had no children of their own in the family. I don't know about Silas's parents, but George's mother Martha, who was born in Ireland, and his father Thomas, who was born in NC, lived nearby with other children.

When Silas Boyce grew up, he married George Morton's first cousin, Margaret E. Morton, born in TN. I don't know George Morton's fate, but he was reportedly still living in 1905. Margaret and Silas died in the 1910s and 1920s.

Were the Reids family friends or relatives of Martha Morton or Silas's parents? I have data on Thomas's family.
