Jesse James 'itinerary' in MN

There is a family rumor that Jesse James (and his gang?) stayed at a boarding house that was run by an ancestor in Chisago county. I imagine that this was either prior or after the bank robbery in Northfield. Is there a source for his itinerary of that time, to give any kind of credence, or to disprove, this rumor?
