Emibas CD:

Emibas was made from registrations in the Swedish parish to go to a foreign country. It is about 75% complete.

There is a link to an excellent article about Swedish naming customs on the following page.

http://www.martenius.se/genealogy

There were 701 Stenberg hits on the same cd, so I don't think it is a "very uncommon" name.

Look at this name search site for modern Sweden.

http://www.scb.se/Pages/NameSearch____259070.aspx

Enter Stenberg and this is the result.
**************************
Last name

* There are 7101 persons with the last name Stenberg

Given name

* There are 1 woman with the given name Stenberg. Of these, 0 use the name Stenberg as their normally used name.
* There are 2 men with the given name Stenberg. Of these, 0 use the name Stenberg as their normally used name.
***************************

IF there was nobility in this family, it must have been a very long time before this tenant farmer and his family left Sweden. Nobility also didn't seem to use patronymic (son/daughter) names, and Stenberg is not a name used by nobility, as far as I know. (I am not an expert on nobility.)

I am not related.

Judy
