The Mizenchuks were originally from the village of Kudrynce, Borschiw district, Ternopol area , Ukraine. There are still many living there today.

The 1st Mizenchuk that I know of that came to Canada was my gr. Grandmother PHYLENA [Mizenchuk] RYSTEPHANUK[b. 1860's], wife of Petro R., who came to Sandy Lake,Mb. in 1900. There is a Sandy Lake History book which has some Mizenchuks listed.

Here's the Mizenchuks from Sandy Lake-Maria[b. 1914 in SL], Peter[Married in SL in 1911,d. 1955], Wm.[.08May, 1912], ?Susan[b. 16Sept, 1916]. I don't have the book at home, or else I'd give you more info.

There were other Mizenchuks who ended up in Ont. before 1910. Peter D. Mizenchuk of On. has done extensive geneology of this family. I think he's the expert. The origin of the surname is indeed MIZEN, as he lived in Mizen, Russia apparently centuries ago, & adapted the surname Mizenchuk , as no one had a real surname in those days. You were Stefaniuk, son of Stefan, etc. He ended up in Kudrynce, as family history was orally handed down about his roots.

On the IGI website, Peter's ancestors are listed. We haven't figured out all the siblings of Phylena yet.

Who were Wm's parents & grandparents ? Who were your Father's & Grandfather's sibings ? Did he ever speak about Sandy Lake ? Do you know of SOPHRONY Mizenchuk[b. before 1900] from SL. ?

I live in Wpg., & have been working on my RYSTEPHANUK/DERHAK/LEVITSKI family tree for years. I didn't attempt starting Phylena's ancestry, bec. the other families kept me soooo busy. Now I'm ready to do it !

In 1990, my Mom & I went to Kudrynce & Panowice to visit our family.

Hope the info helps a bit ! Linda
