Below is a post I made in 1999. I have not been active much in the last 5 years and my e-mail address has changed. I am hoping that after that lenght of time someone has came up with some information about David C Measels himself.

DAVID C. MEASELS: There are several Davids listed in the Mizell genforum and thought I would add what I know about my David. David C. Measels (note middle initial, just found it in Confederate military I sent for.) was born 1790 in S.C..
He married Sarah born 1790 in N.C.. They had at least 3 children all born in TN. as shown in the 1850 Tippah County, Mississippi census. The first record of David Measels being in Tippah County was when he purchased land from a John Rosel and wife on December 23, 1844 as stated in the Tippah County land records. The Tippah County land records also show that David Measells and his wife Sarah sold a piece of land to John E. Grissom on September 24, 1856. The next record that states where David and Sarah lived was the Drew County, Arkansas Land Records. The records state that on 03-05-1858 that David Measles owned 160 acres of land in Township 13S, Range 6W, Section 22. The 1860 Drew County, Arkansas census shows David and Sarah, with one son living in the county.
David C. Measels military records states the following. Private-Enlisted in Co. E., 24th Arkansas Infantry, at Monticello, Arkansas, June 16, 1862; captured at Arkansas Post, January 11, 1863; confined at U.S. Military Prison, Camp Douglas, Illinois, where he died
on February 5,1863. David C. Measels was buried at CSA Oakwoods Cemetery, Chicago, Illinois.
